Mumbai, May 30: Renowned social activist and prominent women leader Sanghamitra Tai Gaikwad, currently serving as the State Secretary of RPI (Athawale faction), has been conferred with the prestigious ‘Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Bharat Puraskar’ in recognition of her exemplary service to society. The award was presented at a grand ceremony held at Mumbai’s Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium, in the presence of several eminent personalities from the social, cultural, and political spheres.

Sanghamitra Tai’s relentless humanitarian work during the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating floods in Maharashtra was specially acknowledged during the event. At a time when the nation was grappling with crisis, she fearlessly stepped forward to distribute essentials like food grains, medicines, sanitizers, masks, and oxygen to those in dire need across Maharashtra.

Similarly, during the severe floods and heavy rainfall that struck Kolhapur, Sangli, and parts of Western Maharashtra, she once again led from the front. With her team, she ensured that hundreds of affected families received relief kits, clothes, medical support, and essential supplies for children.

Previously, she was also honoured with the ‘Popular Civilian Excellence Award’, which was presented to her by renowned film actress Mandakini. In 2025 alone, she has received more than half a dozen national and social awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for her continued commitment to public service.

Sanghamitra Tai is not only known for her compassionate activism but also as a powerful orator and decisive leader. Her work reflects a visionary pursuit of a society where every individual, regardless of their social or economic status, is treated with dignity and given equal opportunity.

Several dignitaries present at the ceremony praised her contributions, stating, “Women like Sanghamitra Tai Gaikwad are true inspirations for society. Her selfless spirit of service should be emulated by every citizen.”
